Welcome to another recent vegan eats, where I recap some things I ate recently that I happen to have (usually mediocre or poor) photographs of on my iPhone. I also do some food reviewskis of new products I’ve tried.
Do you like these? Some of my old subscribers I think really did. When I re-did my blog and transferred a bunch of stuff I somehow lost roughly half of my blog subscribers. I feel kind of terrible about it but don’t know what to do!
Anyways, let’s chat. I had a crazy couple of weeks, despite #funemployment. My mom had another surgery, so I was dealing with managing all that, and trying to push out some content here on the blog, including this celery juice post, which some people really appreciated, and others really detested and got upste about! As the French say, “Ça va aller!”
Without any further delays, let’s get on to the recent vegan eats!
Ate here with the fam. I build-my-own with the vegan protein option (which is a mix of avocado, roasted sweet potatoes, and roasted mushrooms) with basically all the toppings minus raw onions cause #acidreflux. So good! Wisco readers, I highly recommend FreshFin!
Almond Milk Froyo
Met my friend Michelle at Yo Mama for post FreshFin froyo last week. I got almond milk vanilla with Oreos, salted pecans and raspberries. Yum.
Cauliflower Broccoli Crunch Salad
I made this Cauliflower Broccoli Crunch salad and ate it as a side for a couple of meals, along with some butter lettuce. Recipe coming tomorrow!
Raspberry Panda Brand Licorice
MY CHILDHOOD. In candy form. I used to get these at the UWM bookstore after my parents (who were UWM students) picked me up from day care at UWM daycare. These are so good. If you’ve never had one, TRY THEM.
Beans and Barley‘s Blueberry Pancakes
Predictable me! Vegan pancake goodness. Went for breakfast with my sister and ordered my usual. If I’m there for breakfast I almost always get pancakes with a side of fruit. I feel like I should mix it up but…I just love those pancakes too much! And am typically more a sweet breakfast person than a savory breakfast person.
My sister got the pesto scrambled eggs (they also have a tofu version) and truly enjoyed it. She’d never had a Beans breakfast before and is now a believer. Beans is the best!
Blueberry Fruit Dumpling a la East Side Ovens
Purchased in the half off/past ‘best by’ date case at Beans. It was indeed a bit soggier than a fresh one. Still good though!
On repeat. Tis the season! Recipe here.
Siete Foods Tortilla Chips
Super influencer trendy, but actually tasty! Purchased on sale at Whole Foods. Which is the only time I buy them.
All the fruit
Every post in summer will likely have lots of fruit. GO FRUIT.
Bob’s Red Mill Bars
I’ve been looking to try these and finally found them at Health Hut! And on sale! Verdict: the PB& Chocolate is okay, but I wouldn’t buy them again over other options (like Luna or Kashi bars). The apple spice, however, I really enjoyed and would buy again.
Personal taste preference. Also, I realized they have honey in them after purchasing. Oops! Oh well. I typically don’t purchase things with honey intentionally, but I will eat things with honey in them if they are given to me or I buy them by accident (I am not that way with milk/eggs/meat tho). You do you though!
Veggie Burger Patty, Salad + Potato
I also see some leftover roasted cauliflower with some unidentified sauce. Easy, fast, simple, balanced dinner. Sometimes it’s just about getting the job done. Not every meal needs to be fancy to work!
With nutritional yeast and peanut butter. Weird combo but I dig it.
Mediterranean Stuffed Sweet Potatoes
I made these over the weekend when my sister and her husband came over for dinner. I used this recipe as inspiration, but used white beans with slightly different spices, and made a herby (a herby sounds so weird but is grammatically correct?) tomato salad with cherry tomatoes and lots of parsley and lemon juice.
I also did some regular sweet potatoes and some Japanese yams because I adore those.
We paired this with a giant salad made from my sister’s CSA box.
More Girl Scout Cookies
Lemonade cookies this time! I gobbled these at record speed.
We had these for dessert after said potatoes! Recipe here.
Vegan Pasta alla Puttanesca
My sister’s husband made a version of this last week when I stayed at thier house. And so, inspired, I also recently made a version. I used this recipe as a base, with some minor adjustments (added chopped veggies, and topped with leftover beans and bread crumbs toasted with nutritional yeast).
It’s good. Different. I’m not super into olives sometimes cause I puked up olive topanade once, but this had a good briny flavor and I was into it.
Had a hankering and made some. Forever in pursuit of perfect banana bread.
Roasted fennel and tomatoes
Yum! Roasted at 425 with nutritional yeast and salt. Delicious! Ate with pasta.
I had dinner on Tuesday with some high school friends. I got the same things as last time (Bang Bang Broccoli and Buffalo Tofu Sandwich), with salted dark chocolate tart for dessert.
It was SUCH a good time. Like, we were laughing til it hurt. I kind of wish I had tried something else since I want to try more things there, but I was just too hot for any of the other things I wanted to try (like lasagna).
Guess I’ll have to go back! Shoot 😉
Milwaukee locals or visitors…I’d highly suggest giving Celesta a try, even if you’re not vegan. It’s a female-owned, super yummy, cute little spot and I love supporting it!
Museli with Almond Milk
I sometimes get Bob’s Red Mill museli and soak it up with almond milk for a hearty, cool afternoon snack.
From the Ground Up Cauliflower Cheddar Crackers
Pretty dang good! Better than I expected which is always a good surprise. An obvious take on the Cheez-it style cracker, but dairy-free and much less junky-tasting. These are nicely seasoned (with only a mild and not unpleasant cauliflower aftertaste) and eat pretty light! I’d buy again.
I’ve been hitting the barre again! Planning a whole post about this (and my back pain escapades that kept me from doing much physical activity for 18 months) soon.
